Kidney health is assessed using more than one test. Understanding the main measurements can make medical appointments easier to follow.
Creatinine
Creatinine is a blood marker used in kidney function assessment. It is also used in calculating eGFR.
eGFR
eGFR estimates how well the kidneys filter blood. Trends over time can be more informative than one isolated result.
Urine ACR
ACR measures albumin relative to creatinine in a urine sample. Persistent albuminuria can be evidence of kidney damage.
Blood pressure
Blood pressure is closely linked to kidney and cardiovascular health and is commonly monitored in people with CKD.
Why several tests?
Each measurement answers a different question. Combining blood tests, urine tests, blood pressure and clinical history provides a more complete picture.
If your results are abnormal, ask your GP or kidney specialist what they mean together and whether repeat testing is needed.
